Valda M. Jones
Valda M. Jones, 78, passed
away Wednesday (April 2, 2008) at Newton Presbyterian Manor.
Val was born April 12, 1947,
in Newton. She was the youngest of six children born to John F. and Clara G.
(Cordray) Vogt. Her parents and five brothers, Kenneth, John, Jim, Irl and Max,
preceded her in death.
Val is survived by a
sister-in-law, Velda Vogt of Derby, and many nieces and nephews.
Val was baptized at the First
Methodist Church in 1930. She graduated from Newton High School in 1947.
Val worked in Emporia,
Salina, Topeka and Wichita for Southwestern Bell. She retired in 1990 as a
manager.
She moved back to Newton in
May of 2005 to be near family. Val lived in assisted living until October of
2007, when she went into managed care.
Throughout her life, Val was
a member of the Telephone Pioneers and VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Newton.
She was known as a
kind-hearted person who was generous to a fault. She had a good sense of humor
and was a great golfer. Val loved to travel and visited several places,
including Australia, Germany and Greece. She lived in California and wintered
in Green Valley, Ariz., for many years.
Visitation will be from 1 to
9 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
A graveside service will be
at noon Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Memorial donations may be
made to the Alzheimer's Association or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice of Newton.
