Leonard Dean Skinner
JOPLIN, Mo. - Leonard Dean
Skinner, 74, passed away Tuesday (April 1, 2008) at 9:30 a.m. at his home after
a long illness.
Leonard was born May 19,
1933, in Florence to Garry Leroy Skinner and Virgie L. Maltbie Skinner. He
lived in the Florence and Newton areas all of his life until moving to Joplin
in 1984 to accept a job at Tri-State Motor Transit.
He married Carolyn L. Hanes
on Dec. 24, 1957, in Florence. She survives of the home.
Leonard spent eight years of
active duty in the National Guard and two years of in-active duty. He was a
mechanic at the Ford Garage in Florence and also worked for over seven years as
a police officer for the City of Florence. He was a truck driver for a total of
50 years, retiring from Crete Carriers Corp. in Lincoln, Neb.
Other survivors include son,
Garry Dean Skinner of Galva; two daughters, Nancy Jean Tomasino of Porter,
Texas, and Cynthia Ann Skinner of Joplin; nine grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; two sisters, MaryLou Phillips and Margene Dornbush, both
of Marion; and one brother, John Skinner of Edmond, Okla.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; brother, Max; stepfather, Walter Rodgers; and one infant grandson.
Funeral services will be at 2
p.m. today at Greenwood Baptist Church in Joplin. Pastor Loma Burrell will officiate.
Pallbearers will be John Brockman, Randall Moore, Robert Woolsey, Larry
Pequignot, Derick Skinner and Jason Brister.
Graveside services will be at
10 a.m. Saturday Florence Cemetery in Florence.
Memorial contributions may be
made to the Greenwood Baptist Church in care of Parker Mortuary.
