Esta Graves

Esta Graves, 91, passed away Wednesday (April 16, 2008) at Asbury Park Healthcare in Newton.

She was born Sept. 28, 1916, in Haverhill to Roy and Ethel (Stewart) Killion. They preceded her in death.

On Aug. 6, 1949, she married Waldo E. Graves in Newton. He preceded her in death Aug. 17, 1980.

Esta was a founding member of Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton, where she remained an active member and part of the Bridge Builders Sunday School class.

Esta enjoyed following the stock market and making investments. She also enjoyed traveling the world, and one of her favorite countries to visit was Ireland. Playing the piano and organ also were pastimes. Esta looked forward to spending time with her many friends and loving family.

She is survived by son, Jon Graves of Wichita; daughter, Mary Lynne Plis of Glendale, Ariz.; sister, Sarah "Sally" Hazlett of Wichita; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Killion and Ralph Killion.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family receiving friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Heights UMC, with the Rev. Phil Fischer of the church officiating.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at Asbury Park in care of the funeral home.
