Bertha Salome Adrian
Bertha Salome Adrian, 87,
loving sister, aunt and friend, passed away Tuesday (April 22, 2008) at Legacy
Park in Peabody.
She was born Feb. 13, 1921,
in rural Burrton to Jacob and Gertrude (Wiens) Adrian.
After graduating from
Halstead High School, she attended Franklin Business College in Wichita. During
World War II, she worked at Beech Aircraft for seven years, and after the war,
she was employed by Boeing for seven years. She also worked for the Department
of Agriculture as executive secretary. Later in life, she was a hostess for the
Newton Area Senior Center.
Bertha was a member of the
Southwest Baptist Church in Wichita and sang in the choir there. She also was a
former Girl Scout leader.
Bertha married Gale Sickles,
who preceded her in death.
Survivors include three
sisters, Verna Adrian and Ruby Kasper, both of Newton, and Leona and Ray
Rilling of Moundridge; 14 nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Others preceding her in death
were three brothers, Milton, Otto and Jonathan Adrian; and a sister, Rosella
Crigger.
Visitation will be from 1 to
8 p.m. today at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 2
p.m. Friday at Newton Bible Church. Pastor Don Myer will be presiding.
Burial will be at Greenwood
Cemetery in Newton.
