Debra L. Wharton

Debra L. Wharton, 50, of Newton, passed away Monday (March 3, 2008) at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis campus in Wichita.

She was born March 22, 1957, in Tildon, Neb., to Robert and Connie (Hoffmann) Folkers. They survive of Belleview, Neb.

On Nov. 8, 1980, she married Rob Wharton in Lyman, Neb. He survives of the home.

Debra graduated from Ralston High School in 1975 and attended Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, and Pern State College.

She worked as a certified medical assistant at Presbyterian Manor. She also had worked as a para-educator and copier technician dispatcher for USD 373 in Newton.

Debra enjoyed watching sports, especially her beloved Nebraska football. She also enjoyed attending her boys' sports events and supporting them.

Debra spent her free time tending her gardens and flowers. She looked forward to spending time with her many friends and loving family.

Other survivors include sons, Jeffery Wharton and wife, Kelly, and Daniel Wharton, all of Newton; sister, Marla Jackson and husband, Garry, of Mullen, Neb.; nephews, Jeremy Jackson and Dustin Jackson; and niece, Casie Delgado.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton, with the Rev. Phil Fischer of the church officiating.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Heights UMC in care of the funeral home.
