Rollin Joseph Yoder
LENEXA - Rollin Joseph Yoder,
88, died Tuesday (March 4, 2008) at Lakeview Village in Lenexa.
He was born Oct. 19, 1919, in
Windom to Charles D. and Susanna Heatwole Yoder. He was the ninth of 10
children.
As a young man, he attended
Hesston Academy and then moved to Alberta, Canada, where he lived for 22 years,
farming and clearing land for his family and others, pastoring a mission church
and starting a family. He moved to Hesston in 1959, and to Kansas City, Mo., in
1969, where he lived his remaining life.
He worked in sales and
marketing in the RV industry as well as being branch manager for the Kansas
City office of Industrial Chemicals Co. Following retirement, he became a
resident at Lakeview Village until his time of death. His hobby was involving
himself in construction projects that benefited others. He had a knack for
finding the humor in life, and his generous spirit will be missed by all who
knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife,
Esther Yoder of Lenexa; his children and spouses, Clifford and Mary Yoder of
Tulsa, Okla., Yvonne and Gerry Sieber of Hesston, and Shirley and Byron Oberst
of Bend, Ore.; Edna Yoder, the mother of his children, of Hesston; six
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; his
second family, children Sharon and John Cox of Shawnee, Jerry and Lorraine
Miller of Kansas City, Mo., eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two
great-great grandchildren, and a host of extended family.
Rollin was preceded in death
by his parents; brothers, Lawrence Yoder, Tillman Yoder, Willis Yoder and
Emerson Yoder; sisters, Phebe Yoder, Ada Miller, Leah Loucks, Vera Schrag and
Ruth Miller; and infant daughter, Sharon Lee Yoder.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m.
Saturday at Newcomer Funeral Chapel, 8201 Metcalf in Overland Park, followed by
funeral service at noon with internment and gathering following.
A memorial fund is designated
for the Alzheimer's Association.
