Alice Chavez

Obituary

Alice Marie Chavez, 68, passed away on Saturday (July 21, 2018) at Newton Medical Center.

Alice fought a four-year battle with cancer. She was strong and optimistic and chose to work and maintain home responsibilities as long as she was physically capable. Saturday, after a 10-day hospital stay, her body released her spirit to her heavenly home.

Alice Marie Lujano was born on March 12, 1950, to Lori (Terrones) and Angel "Moe" Lujano in Newton. She attended Newton schools and was a 1968 graduate of Newton High School. She later continued her education and attended LPN school.

In 1980, Alice eloped with Margarito Chavez and they were married in Ponca City, Oklahoma. They recently celebrated their many years of marriage by formally being remarried in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and rededicating their life to each other and the church.

Alice loved to work and enjoyed her time as an LPN and a para at Slate Creek Elementary School. She was very close with her nursing friends and the many students she worked with at Slate Creek.

Alice was a loving and giving person. She deeply loved her family, friends and grandchildren. She was a dedicated wife and loved to dance with her husband. Family was very important to her and she loved getting everyone together and cooking for them. She was a person of strong faith and a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.

She is survived by her husband, Margarito Chavez; children: Tony and Breanna Chavez, Eva Marie Lujano and Angelina Parga; siblings: Ernie Lujano, Delia Lujano and Virginia Lujano; grandchildren: Kristina Cortell, Dexter Lewka, Chris Budde, Angel Lembke, Rocco Lembke, Alex Silva, Alexis Chavez, Ricky Parga, Ismael Parga, Mikey Parga, Cameron Chavez, Gage Chavez, Madison Blanton, Chloe Chavez, Morgan Blanton and Adison Wagner; great-grandchildren: Lori Budde and Adelyn Budde; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; Angel Lujano.

The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (July 25, 2018) at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. The Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (July 26, 2018) at the church. The family will be there to greet friends and family following the Rosary.

A memorial has been established for the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Building Fund, 415 S. Ash St., Newton, KS 67114.

Alice will be greatly missed by her family and friends and they will have many cherished memories of her. Petersenfamilyfuneralhome.com.
