Obituary
Annabel C. Penner, 88, died Tuesday
(Aug. 21, 2018) at Newton Medical Center. She was born July 12, 1930,
in rural McPherson County to Frank W. and Mary (Becker) Holdeman.
On Aug. 31, 1970, she married Lawrence
L. Strother in Wichita and he preceded her in death. She later
married John F. Penner on Sept. 1, 2001, and he also precedes her in
death.
Annabel was raised in the Meridian
Mennonite Church, rural Hesston, and attended Immanuel Baptist Church
in Newton.
She was the former owner of the Village
Motel in Hesston and also worked at the former Newton K-Mart. She
enjoyed reading and had a passion for knitting. She knitted many
different kinds of clothing, including sweaters, gloves and afghans
that her family and friends treasure dearly. She had a love of family
and greatly looked forward to spending time with her loving family
and many friends.
Annabel is survived by her daughter,
Gretchen (Rick) Phillips of Dothan, Alabama; brother, Ordo Holdeman
of Versailles, Missouri; two sisters, Gladys Wiens of Moundridge and
Elaine Holdeman of Hesston; and two grandchildren, Caitlin and Justin
Gallops.
She is preceded in death by her
parents; husbands; sister, Deloris Holdeman; and grandson, Matthew
Ryan Gallops.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday
(Aug. 24, 2018) at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, with Minister Shawn
Giesel presiding. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 23,
2018), with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the
funeral home. Graveside Committal Service will be in the Meridian
Mennonite Church Cemetery, rural Hesston, with Pastor Mike Ronan
officiating.
