Menno Fast
HESSTON - Menno Fast, 91, of
Hesston, passed away Sunday (March 23, 2008) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
He was born April 16, 1916,
in Goessel to Isaac and Aganetha Unruh Fast. They preceded him in death.
Menno attended schools in the
Goessel area and graduated from Bethel College in North Newton and the
University of Kentucky in Lexington with degrees in education. He taught in the
physics departments at the University of Kentucky and the University of
Nebraska in Lincoln while farming in the summers on the family farm in Goessel.
He served two-and-a-half
years with Mennonite Central Committee doing relief and rehabilitation work in
Poland after World War II. He was a lifetime member of Goessel Mennonite
Church.
The essence of Menno's life
could be captured in his devotion to a simple lifestyle, his family and service
through the church.
Menno married Naomi Brubaker
on Aug. 20, 1949, in Lancaster, Penn. She survives in Hesston. Also surviving
is a sister, Martha Fast Waltner of Freeman, S.D.; three children, Catherine
and Doug Everingham of Wichita, Elisabeth and Theo Beels of Grand Rapids,
Mich., and John and Jenny Fast of Goessel; grandchildren, Kristina and Polo
Everingham Gutierrez, Marten and Becca Beels, Chris and Carrie Beels, Peter
Beels, Anna Beels, Evan Fast and Isaac Fast; and great-grandchildren, Jacob
Beels, Hailey Beels and Hassan Everingham Gutierrez.
Menno also was preceded in
death by a sister, Selma Fast Schmidt, and an infant son, Robert Lowell Fast.
There will be no viewing in
keeping with Menno's request. Memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at
Schowalter Villa chapel.
Memorial gifts may be made to
the Kauffman Museum in North Newton or Mennonite Central Committee in care of Miller
Funeral Home in Hesston, which is in charge of arrangements.
