Naomi (Brubaker) Fast
Naomi (Brubaker) Fast, 94, of
Hesston, died Friday (May 8, 2015). She was born January 16, 1921 in Lancaster,
Pennsylvania, to Jacob and Barbara Brubaker.
After graduating from Goshen
College, she served as a dietitian with Civilian Public Service in California.
There she met Menno Fast and they married on August 20, 1949.
Once married, Naomi taught
home economics at Hesston College. She and Menno raised two daughters and a son
in Lexington, Kentucky, and Lincoln, Nebraska. In both university towns, she
was actively involved in the lives of international students. They retired to
the Fast family farm east of Goessel in 1981. In 2001 they relocated to
Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
Survivors include her three
children, Catherine and Douglas Everingham of Wichita, Elisabeth and Theodoor
Beels of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and John and Jenny Fast of Goessel; seven
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
her husband of 58 years, Menno Fast; infant son, Robert Lowell; sister, Barbara
Sommer; brothers Clarence Brubaker and John Brubaker.
Visitation with the family
will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday, May 11 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. A
memorial service will be held 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 12 at Schowalter Villa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial
gifts may be made to the Schowalter Villa Good Samaritan Fund and Mennonite
Central Committee for Nepal Earthquake Relief in care of Miller-Ott Funeral
