'Ozzie' Goering
MOUNDRIDGE -
Oswald H. "Ozzie" Goering, 84, of Moundridge, passed away Friday
(Feb. 1, 2008) at The Cedars in McPherson.
He was born
June 19, 1923, in Moundridge to Henry J. and Mary J. (Kauffman) Goering.
He married
Elaine L. Wedel on May 25, 1947, in North Newton. She survives of The Cedars in
McPherson.
He was a
longtime area resident. He was a graduate of Bethel College and Indiana
University. He was a retired Bethel College dean of men and a retired professor
of outdoor education at Northern Illinois University.
He was a
member of the Newton and McPherson Rotary Clubs, McPherson Radio Club and
Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton.
Other
survivors include daughters, Kathryn G. Reid of Richmond, Ind., and Patricia
Alba of Gainsville, Fla.; sisters, Ada Goering of Neodesha and Kathryn News of
Philadelphia; and six grandchildren.
He was
preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph W. and Ellis E. Goering, and one
sister, Martha Ford.
Visitation
will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Moundridge Funeral Home, with family
present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral
service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel College Mennonite Church, with
pastors Ruth Harder and Heidi Regier Kreider presiding.
Committal
service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Eden Mennonite Church Cemetery in
Moundridge.
Memorial
contributions may be made to the Heifer International Project or Kauffman
Museum in care of the funeral home.
