BURNS -
Ellis V. Smith, 84, of Burns, passed away Tuesday (Feb. 5, 2008) at Harry Hynes
Memorial Hospice in Wichita.
He was born
Dec. 23, 1923, in Halstead to Ike and Rhoda (Unruh) Smith. They preceded him in
death.
On March 10,
1946, he married Fern Johnson in Fairview, Okla. She survives of the home.
He was a
member of Eden Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, in rural Burns.
Ellis was a
wheat farmer and worked in various manufacturing plants, including Guerdons and
Detroiter Mobile Homes in Newton. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting old tools
and making wooden toys.
Ellis looked
forward to spending time with his loving family and many friends.
Other
survivors include sons, Norman Smith of Potwin and Randall Smith of Newton;
daughters, Gloria Haire of Middleburg, Penn., and Beverly Smith of Newton;
brother, Jake Smith of Molino, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Visitation
will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral
Home in Newton.
Funeral
service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Eden Church of God in Christ,
Mennonite, with ministers Lowell Koehn and Vernon Koehn presiding.
Burial will
be at Eden Mennonite Church Cemetery in Burns.
Memorial
contributions may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or the Gospel Tract
and Bible Society in care of the funeral home.
