Charles Roger Clark Jr, 51, of Newton,
KS known to everyone as Roger or Rog, went to be with his Lord and
Savior, Jesus, after a short but hard fought battle with gliosarcoma,
a form of brain cancer on September 1, 2018. He was surrounded by
family. He was born July 13, 1967 in Salina, KS to Charles and June
Clark. He grew up on his family’s homestead outside of Culver, KS
where he learned how to work driving tractors, milking cows, and
cutting wood. This work ethic would remain strong throughout his
adult life. He attended the University of Kansas where he earned four
degrees. While working as pharmacy techs at St John’s hospital in
Salina, KS he and his future wife, Susan Scheffer, met. They married
on August 3, 1996 and were happily married for 22 years. They were
blessed with four children, Maddie, Jed, Lora, and Nate that he loved
dearly. He worked as a pharmacist in several settings and co-owned
and operated Valley Drug which he sold just prior to being diagnosed.
Roger was passionate about many things especially his family. When
his children were small, he worked three 12 hour shifts and took call
so that he could be home with his kids. He later worked more hours to
provide for his family and to send his children to Christian school.
He loved his children and spent as much time as he could with them.
They hiked all over the state of Kansas which Roger referred to as a
big playground and attended every KU football home game from the time
they were born. He loved Kansas, Eagle Nest, NM, John Batchelor
podcasts, KU football, the mountains, his dog, Guvna Finney, road
trips, food, reading, writing, history, current events and politics.
He also loved to run and ran 30 miles a week in the countryside
around Newton always starting at Bethel College where people
recognized him as the guy who ran across campus each morning. He
loved the outdoors and working in his yard. After he and his wife
built their home in Newton, Roger covered the front easement with
creeping phlox. Many people would drive by the house each spring just
to see these flowers of which he was very proud..He is survived by
his wife, Susan, of the home, his children, Maddie (Kansas City),
Jed, Lora, and Nate of the home, his parents, Charles and June Clark,
siblings Kim (Eldon) Smith, LeeAnn Clark, Barbara Petik, and Sam
Clark, mother-in-law, Connie Scheffer, brothers-in-law, Russ Scheffer
and Mike (Jacki) Scheffer, and many nieces and nephews. His family
would like to thank the family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers
who reached out with prayers, encouragement, visits, food, acts of
service and gifts. They would like to thank Pastor Snow and
especially Pastor Myers for the visits, readings from Psalms, and
prayer. Finally, they would like to thank those special healthcare
workers that provided Roger’s care during his illness and the staff
at Kidron Bethel who cared for and about him in his final days. In
lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to assist with
his children’s college education. Checks may be made to the family

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday,
September 6, 2018 from 5-9pm with family present from 6:30-8pm. The
Funeral will be held Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11am at Holy Cross
Lutheran Church in Wichita, KS with burial following at 2pm at
Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, KS. Petersen Funeral Home in charge of
