Janice
"Gayle" Smith, 63, passed away Monday (Feb. 25, 2008) at her residence
in Newton.
She was born
Oct. 8, 1944, in Denver to Roy Clayton and Nancy Billie (Buck) Fear. They
preceded her in death.
She married
Larry Dean Smith on July 11, 1962, in Lakewood, Colo. He survives of Goodyear,
Ariz.
She was a
licensed massage therapist and owned a CURVES women's exercise club before
becoming ill with cancer. She fought a courageous battle with cancer during the
last five and one-half years.
Gayle
attended First Missionary Church in Newton when her health allowed.
She was a
very caring person who was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed helping
other people and was an animal lover who rescued "strays," human and
animal.
She was
loved dearly by everyone who knew her.
Other
survivors include daughter, Lynnette (Smith) and Todd Hendrickson of North
Newton; brothers, Ronnie Fear of Hermiston, Ore., and Gary Dean Fear of
Greeley, Colo.; sisters, JoAnn Fear Bishop of Canyon, Calif., Sharon Stapleton
of Tijeras, N.M., and Jerry Valentin of Lakewood, Colo.; daughter, Dezri and
Corey Vannest of Newton; son, Timothy and Barbara Smith of Shawnee; and eight
grandchildren.
Visitation
will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family
greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral
service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Missionary Church, with pastors
Dave Miller and Ray Adams of the church officiating.
Memorial
contributions may be made to the church or Caring Hands Humane Society in care
of the funeral home.
