Harold
Walter Buckman, 91, died Wednesday (Feb. 27, 2008) at Newton Medical Center.
He was born
Aug. 3, 1916, in Newton, the son of Paul and Hazel (McDonald) Buckman. They
preceded him in death.
He married
Loretta Burton on Jan. 27, 1940, in Kansas City, Kan. She preceded him in death
Jan. 4, 1999.
He was a
railroad electrician for the Santa Fe Railroad before retiring.
He was a
U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving in the South Pacific and Guadalcanal. He was
a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Harold
enjoyed going fishing as much as possible.
Survivors
include daughters, Julie Buckman of Kansas City, Kan., and Barbara Jill
Wiemerslage of Newton; sister, Betty Greenley of Gravois Mills, Mo; four
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He also was
preceded in death by brothers, Paul Jr. and Jack Buckman.
Public book
signing will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home
in Newton.
Graveside
service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery in
Newton, with the Rev. Brungardt officiating.
Memorial
contributions may be made to the VFW in care of the funeral home.
