Carl Eldon Porter
Carl Eldon Porter, 82, passed away Sunday (Jan. 6, 2008) at
Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
He was born March 20, 1925, in rural Burns to Carl and Agnes
(Davidson) Porter. They preceded him in death.
He married Jacquelyn Phipps on Dec. 18, 1949, in Newton. She
survives of Newton.
Carl was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton. He
was a retired custodian for USD 373 in Newton, where he worked for 25 years.
Carl loved to bowl and enjoyed watching all sports. He
looked forward to traveling on bus tours and spending time with his loving
family and many friends.
Other survivors include sons, Michael and Kris Porter of Canyon,
Texas, and Paul and Myong Porter of Tujunga, Calif.; sisters, Bernice Winsky of
Moundridge, Esther Israel of Springfield, Mo., and Dorothy Williams, Hazel
Abrahams and Joy Payne, all of Newton; brothers, Marvin Porter of Wichita and
Wayne Porter of Newton; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a son, Curtis Porter;
daughter, Karla Ann Porter; and sisters, Beatrice Porter, Jean Pierson, Evelyn
Hackney and Lorene Kater.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen
Funeral Home in Newton, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Newton First
Baptist Church, with Pastor Terry Tareila of the church officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Memorial contributions can be made to the church in care of
the funeral home.
