Melvin C. Pitts
HALSTEAD - Melvin C. Pitts,
86, of Halstead passed away Friday (Jan. 11, 2008) at Halstead Health and
Rehabilitation in Halstead.
He was born Oct. 6, 1921, in
Patterson to John C. and Letha M. (Imel) Pitts. Both preceded him in death.
On Jan. 9, 1942, he married
Delila F. Furnish in Newton. She died Oct. 19, 2007.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of
World War II, a life member of VFW Post 971 in Newton, the Patriot Guard and
Bentley Odd Fellows Lodge.
He was a lifelong Bentley and
Halstead area resident. He was an assembler at Case Manufacturing in Wichita.
He is survived by sons,
Melvin Pitts Jr. and wife, Linda, of Halstead, and Steve Pitts and wife,
Virginia, and Dan Pitts and wife, Cris, all of Bentley; daughters, Nancy Swart
and husband David of Bentley, and Pamela Cullum and husband, Rick, of Fort
Dodge, Iowa; a brother, Royce Pitts of Bedford, Texas; sisters, Twyla Sell of
Halstead and Reta Mae Ploughe of Enid, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; 29
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death
by grandsons, Robbie Swart and Scott and Casey Pitts; and brothers, Dale and
Willis Pitts.
Calling hours will be from 2
to 8 p.m. Monday at Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead, with family present from
6:30 to 8 p.m.
Graveside services will be at
11 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Bentley with the Rev. Peter
Harman officiating.

made to VFW Post 971 in Newton in care of the funeral home.
