Alice R. Schmidt Obituary Alice R. Schmidt, 85, passed away Thursday (June 23, 2016) at Bethesda Home, Goessel. She was born February 20, 1931, in Hillsboro, the daughter of Reinhard and Anna Hiebert Funk. She was a member of Tabor Mennonite Church, Newton. She had worked as a nurse's aide for Salem Hospital, at the Central Kansas Hatchery, Moundridge, and in housekeeping at Schowalter Villa. She married Dannie Schmidt on May 24, 1957, in Hillsboro. He died June 26, 2011. Survivors include a son, Dwayne (Fawn) Schmidt, Danbury, Connecticut; two daughters, Cheryl (L.H.) Brunner, Elbing and Lynette (Richard) Johnston, Newton; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers; Ervin and Harry Funk; and two sisters, Lillian Peters and Verna Ruth Waltner. Inurnment will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday (July 23, 2016) at the Tabor Mennonite Church Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Tabor Mennonite Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (July 22, 2016) at Bethesda Home, Goessel. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda Home or Good Shepherd Hospice, both in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Goessel.
