Doris Isabel (Michel) Stump

Doris Isabel (Michel) Stump, 80, died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2007) at Presbyterian Manor in Newton.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1927, in Amelia, Neb., to Octa (Eller) and the Rev. Otto Michel.

Three husbands preceded her in death - Bob Wamsley, who died Nov. 24, 1944; Alfred Fisher, who died May 12, 1984; and Gerald Stump, who died June 27, 1996.

She was a member of the Long Island United Methodist Church in Long Island, Kan., where she was the organist and pianist for more than 50 years. During her time in the church, she also served as past president for the women's society and at the general conference of the United Methodist Church. She was a devoted prayer warrior and a student of the Bible.

She worked as a clerk for KN Energy, where she retired in 1991. She also had been employed for J.C. Penney in Phillipsburg.

Her love for music blessed her with the ability to teach piano for more than 20 years.

Survivors include two sons, David Fischer of Norton and Brian Fischer of Solomon; four daughters, Susan Wise of Fort Worth, Texas, Katherine Mick of Newton, Beverly Koerperich of Blanchard, Idaho, and Bonnie Laughlin of Norton; a brother, Clyde Michel of Boulder, Colo.; and a sister, Norma Reese of Longview, Texas.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Lester Michel.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Alma, Neb.

Visitation also will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at Long Island United Methodist Church in Long Island.

A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Long Island United Methodist Church in Long Island.

Burial will follow in the Alma Cemetery in Alma, Neb.

Memorials may be made to the Teens for Christ Connection in Phillipsburg, Whispering Pines Retirement Center in Norton or the Presbyterian Manor-Haury Place in Newton in care of the funeral home.

Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton and the Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Alma, Neb., are in charge of arrangements. Norton Flowers and Gifts is in charge of the floral arrangements.
