Kathleen Custer
HALSTEAD -
Elva Kathleen Custer, 89, passed away Friday (Nov. 16, 2007) at Halstead Health
and Rehab in Halstead.
She was born
July 7, 1918, in Strong City to William and Margaret (Swigart) Peacock.
On Sept. 15,
1941, she married Walter Custer in Wichita. A lifelong homemaker, she also
worked as a cook at Prairie View Mental Health Center in Newton.
Elva was a
member of the Newton First United Methodist Church. She loved reading and
enjoyed visiting with relatives and friends. She also enjoyed playing cards
with the women at the Midtown Towers in Newton, where she was living after
Walter passed away. She especially enjoyed seeing her grandchildren.
Survivors
include a son, William and Jeanie Custer of Topeka; a daughter, Janet and
Dennis Mueller of Wellington, Fla.; five grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Charles Peacock and Harold
Peacock; and a sister, Mildred Peacock.
Visitation will
be from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
A graveside
service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Nathan
Morgan of the First United Methodist Church in Newton officiating.
Memorials
may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Newton in care of the
funeral home.
