Obituary
Gary Budde, 67, of rural Newton,
entered into the presence of God Tuesday (Oct. 2, 2018) morning,
following a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He died at his
home, surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born May 28, 1951,
the third child and only son of Albert and Agnes Budde of rural
Newton. He spent his childhood on the family farm east of Newton.
Gary's first grade class was the last
class to start at Kelly School, a one-room school one half mile south
of the family farm. He finished his grade school years at Pleasant
Acres School before moving on to Newton High School, graduating with
the class of 1969. Gary graduated from Wichita Technical Institute
with a degree in Electronics.
Gary served in the United States Air
Force from December 1970 until December 1974. He completed his basic
training in Colorado Springs, Colorado, before being stationed at
White Sands, New Mexico; McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita; and at
Bentwaters AFB, Suffolk, England. While in the Air Force, he worked
as an electronic lab technician in PMEL (Precision Measurement
Equipment Laboratory), calibrating equipment in measurements as small
as millionths.
On Aug. 18, 1973, he married Linda
Miller of Hesston. After their time in the Air Force, they
established their home on the family farm east of Newton. Gary was a
self-employed farmer in addition to establishing J & G
Fabrication, a welding and fabrication business.
Gary was a good and loving family man.
He enjoyed being involved with his children's activities, whether it
was working on the farm or with 4-H, Saddle Club, skiing with the
family, traveling or activities at K-State. He served on the Harvey
County 4-H Fair Board and as a Pleasant Township trustee.
Gary is survived by his wife, Linda;
son, Josh and wife Jen, and their children: Grace, Beau, Stella and
Luke of Newton; daughter, Steph and husband David McCorkle, and their
children: Kendra Ek, Kylee and Sydney McCorkle of Elbing; and his
sisters, Donna Miller of Sacramento, California, and Janet Bair of
Newton.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m.
Friday (Oct. 5, 2018) at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, with the
family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial Service will be 11 a.m.
Saturday (Oct. 6, 2018) at the First United Methodist Church in
Newton. Burial will be prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. at Greenwood
Cemetery in Newton.
