Lois Eileen Benton
Obituary
Lois Eileen Benton, 77, died on Sunday
(Sept. 9, 2018) at her home in Wichita.
Lois Eileen was born on Oct. 16, 1940,
in Newton to Arthur and Margaret Dyck. Eileen was raised on a family
farm just north of Elbing.
Eileen attended District 85, a small
one-room school house, near Elbing from first through eighth grade
and spent her high school years at Berean Academy. She graduated with
the class of 1958.
In January of 1959, Eileen attended
Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, Nebraska. She was married to Ron
Benton on Aug. 26, 1961, in Newton. Ron and Eileen would begin their
married life in Omaha. Their two children, Randall and Robert, were
born in Omaha.
In 1970, Eileen and her family moved to
Elbing to start a new life close to Eileen's parents and farm. It was
during this timeframe that Eileen started her ministry of letter
writing to church missionaries and others in need. Eileen became an
excellent letter writer. Many missionary friends and family members
benefited from her writings up until her last months on Earth. This
was one of her many God-given talents.
In 1984, Eileen and Ron decided to move
to Wichita so they could be closer to Ron's job. Eileen found a
company called Hospice of Wichita and soon started another new
chapter in her life. Eileen excelled with the company, which later
changed its name to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. The company grew
and Eileen was a big part of that growth. She loved the people and
the work that Hospice did for so many in need. Eileen worked for 25
years until she decided to retire.
Over the past 10 years, Eileen has kept
busy with her letter writing and spending time with her six
grandchildren, traveling to Dallas, New Jersey and Spain. In her
final days, travel was not possible so she spent most of her time
with grandchildren, Randall and Valentina, in Wichita. She loved
spending time with them and they loved being with her.
She is survived by her husband of more
than 55 years, Ronald; sons, Randall (Denice) Benton of Wichita and
Robert (Lynda) Benton of Flemington, New Jersey; six grandchildren;
and one sister, Carolyn Flaming of Rockford, Illinois.
