Bertha A. Zook, 100, passed away Saturday (Nov. 24, 2007) at Bethesda Home in
Goessel.
She was born
Jan. 24, 1907, to John and Eleanora (Ferguson) Rodgers on a farm near
Zimmerdale.
She married
Truman L. Zook on Sept. 9, 1928, in Emporia. Her preceded her in death on June
2, 1977.
Bertha
worked at Beech Aircraft in Wichita for many years in various capacities, both
on the line and in an office, until she retired 35 years ago.
Throughout
her life and up to the last few years, Bertha influenced the lives of many
children through her baby-sitting, whether they were neighborhood children or
nieces and nephews. She also was talented at sewing, embroidering, crocheting,
tatting, quilting and dressmaking. She was active in volunteer work at her
church first in Wichita, then in Newton, and she loved church potlucks.
Bertha was
very independent, living alone at home and taking care of herself until she was
nearly 100. She always dressed elegantly with her hair done and jewelry in
place, and she loved eating out with friends.
Survivors
include two sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
She was
preceded in death by 15 brothers and sisters: Emerson, Arthur, Esther, Ralph,
Grace, Sarepta, Glenn, Myrtle, Nina, Samuel, Walter, Tillman, Edgar, Harold and
Wilson.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, and the
family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral
services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton,
with Pastor Michael Ronan officiating.
Burial will
be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

contributions can be made to Immanuel Baptist Church of Newton for missions in
care of the funeral home.
