Obituary
Wichita - Steven Ernest Cox, 70, passed
away Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2018). He was born June 11, 1948, in Wichita.
Steve was raised in Derby and graduated
from Derby High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve
from 1967 to 1973. After six years at Schwan's Sales, in Parsons, he
was promoted to Sales Manager, which relocated his family to
Greenville, South Carolina.
In 1990, Steve and his wife, Kris,
received the opportunity to return back to Newton to operate the
family business, Wiebe Tire and Automotive. He retired from the
aircraft industry in 2010.
Steve was an avid fisherman, who
treasured any time on the water. He enjoyed excursions around the
country with his brother, Mike, and was known among his peers as a
talented angler.
All who knew Steve recognized his
dedication and love for his grandchildren. His gentle and tender
demeanor was a magnet to his grandkids. Steve was never too busy to
spend time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, E.P. and Gerry (Holsey) Cox; and his brother, Michael Cox.
Steven is survived by Kris Wiebe Cox of
Wichita; daughters, Rebecca Cox Cruse and Keli (Evan) LaRue; and his
grandchildren: Collin, Isabella and Jackson Cruse, and Etta, Evie and
Henry LaRue.
Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Friday
(Oct. 26, 2018) at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Road, Derby, KS
67037. Family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside Service
will be 10 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 27, 2018) at Hillcrest Cemetery, 10102
E. 95th St. S., Derby, KS 67037.
