Eleanor Jane Hackenberg
MANHATTAN - Eleanor Jane
Hackenberg, 76, of Manhattan died Thursday (Sept. 27, 2007) at her residence.
She was born Eleanor Jane Zook on Dec. 29, 1930, the daughter of Clarence and
Grace (Rodgers) Zook of rural Newton. On Sept. 29, 1946, she married Ray L.
Hackenberg of Hesston with whom she shared a loving life for more than 52 years.
Eleanor worked for the U.S. Post Office in Hesston for more than 20 years. She
was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Hesston and generous
supporter of local school and civic organizations.
She was a pianist, organist,
Sunday school teacher and sang in the church choir.
Following the death of her
husband in 1999, Eleanor moved to Manhattan to be closer to her family and new
grandchildren.
She also was preceded in
death by her two brothers, Kenneth Zook and Norman Zook.
She is survived by two sons,
Michael Hackenberg and Julie Jeffrey of Richmond, Calif., and Patrick
Hackenberg and his wife Colleen of Manhattan; and two grandchildren, Eric
Hackenberg and Sean Hackenberg, both of Manhattan.
The family will receive
friends during a visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hesston United
Methodist Church in Hesston. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at
the Hesston City Cemetery.
Memorial services will follow
at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hesston United Methodist Church with the Revs.
