Esther P. Cole

Esther P. Cole, 87, died Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2007) at Newton Medical Center in Newton. She was born July 13, 1920, in Newton to Jacob C. and Elisabeth (Bergen) Unruh. On Feb. 29, 1949, she married John G. Cole. He preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 1992. She was a member of First Church of God in Newton. She was a resident of Kansas Christian Home for almost three years. She greatly enjoyed golfing and was past president of the Echo Hills Ladies Golf Association and the Wichita Women's Business Professional Golf Association. She was a retired legal secretary. In her younger years, she loved to fly airplanes. She looked forward to traveling around the world with her husband, especially to Rome and Puerto Rico. She loved to play the organ, sewing, needlepoint and gardening. One of her great joys in life was her family and friends. She looked forward to family reunions and especially spending time with her grandkids.

Survivors include a daughter, Sallyanne and Ron Rowley of Newton; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Shawna K. Rowley; sister, Alma Lytle; and brothers Edward Unruh, Rudy Unruh, Alvin Unruh, Allen Unruh and Walter Unruh.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Church of God in Newton with Pastor Brian Curran officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorials may be made to First Church of God in care of the funeral home.
