Melvin Morgan
HALSTEAD - Melvin Morgan, 79,
died Tuesday (Oct. 16, 2007) at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis
campus in Wichita. He was born Jan. 31, 1928, to Kaphardt and Alice (Fiser) Morgan.
On June 16, 1953, he married Marilyn Cornelius in Omaha, Neb. She preceded him
in death on Sept. 13, 1970. He never remarried. He was a member of First Church
of the Nazarene. He was a very religious man who put God first in his life.
Family also was a high priority. He was very proud of his grandchildren and
always attended their sporting events. He loved and always wanted to help his
fellow neighbor. He volunteered a lot of his time and spent some of it at the
Newton Area Senior Center. He also loved sports. He was an avid Cornhusker and
Chiefs fan. He was a veteran of the U.S. military.
Survivors include daughters,
Linda (Morgan) and Rick Gresham of Wichita, Nancy Simpson of San Rafael,
Calif., and Kathy Morgan of Irving, Texas; eight grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; sisters, Cynthia Valker and Bernice Johnson; and a brother, Lester
Morgan.
Visitation will be from 1 to
9 p.m. today at Peterson Funeral Home in Newton.
Funeral service will be at 2
p.m. Friday at First Church of Nazarene in Newton with Pastor Ron Thorton of
the church officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn
Cemetery in Omaha, Neb.
Memorials may be made to the
American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
