Richard L. 'Dick' Shoger
LYONS - Richard L.
"Dick" Shoger, 76, of Lyons passed away Monday (Oct. 22, 2007) at
Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in Little River. He was born Oct. 11, 1931, in
El Dorado to Cecil and Neva (Groves) Shoger. On July 26, 1958, he married Wanda
Canard in Farmington, N.M. She survives at home. He graduated from McPherson
High School in 1949 and attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He lived in Newton before
moving to Lyons in 1984. He was a retired owner of the former Chicken Roost in
Lyons.
He was a member of Church of
Christ in Windom. He was a former deacon at Church of Christ in Newton; a past
Lyons Housing Authority Board member; and a past board member of the Lyons
Chamber of Commerce.
Other survivors include a
son, Rick Shoger of Lyons; a daughter, Renee Erickson of Walton; a sister, Geri
Kenan of Lawrence; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by
his parents and a brother, Bill Shoger.
Visitation will be from 2 to
8 p.m. Friday at Birzer-Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons, with family present from
6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 10
a.m. Saturday at Church of Christ in Lyons with minister Kenny Graham
officiating. Burial will be in Windom Cemetery in Windom with military honors
by the U.S. Air Force.
Memorials may be made to the
Celebration Centre or Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in care of the funeral
home.
