Obituary
Okuni "Nikki" Evans, 88,
passed away on Wednesday (Nov. 28, 2018) at the Asbury Park
Greenhouse in Newton with her daughter at her side.
She was born on Jan. 10, 1930, in
Saitama Ken, Japan, to Tatsugoro and Take Shindo Takeda. She married
Wilfred Evans on July 11, 1958. They had one child, a daughter Edith.
Nikki came to the United States with
her husband, who was in the U.S. Army, and they were stationed at
various bases throughout the U.S. Wilfred retired in 1968 at Fort
Riley. They made their home in Herrington for several years until
moving to Huachuca City, Arizona.
Wilfred died in 2002 and Edith brought
her mom back to Kansas to be near family. During her years in Newton,
Nikki was active with the Harvey County RSVP, volunteering many
hours. Along with her volunteer work with RSVP, she was also very
active at Asbury Park, helping where she could. She was a familiar
face to staff when something needed to be done.
Nikki also enjoyed traveling. She took
many day trips with the Harvey County Interurban and also did
extended trips with the Newton and Hesston Senior Center. Besides her
travels, Nikki enjoyed making jewelry for the staff at Asbury, as
well as family and friends. She also enjoyed doing word search
puzzles, putting together jigsaw puzzles and , during football
season, watching her beloved Dallas Cowboys.
Nikki is survived by her daughter Edith
(Duane) Clark of Newton; granddaughter, Elizabeth Herpich of Newton;
grandson, Christopher (Ruth) Clark of Goddard; and three
great-grandchildren, Anthony Herpich, Addison Clark and Carolyne
Clark.
There will be no services as Nikki has
been cremated.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests
memorial contributions be given to Asbury Park or Good Shepherd
Hospice. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home,
