Shan Mapes
LAS VEGAS, N.M. - Shan Mapes,
53, died Thursday (Sept. 13, 2007) at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St.
Francis campus in Wichita. He was born on Nov. 15, 1953, in Hays to Arland and
Beverly J. (Green) Mapes. On April 2, 1977, he married Cheryl Starnes in
Salina. She survives in their New Mexico home. He was a member of First
Christian Church. He was an avid sports fan and actively followed Newton
baseball program. He enjoyed KU sports and KC Chiefs. He deeply loved his kids
and and grandchildren. Family was important to him.
Survivors include his wife;
father; sons, Shae and Crystal Mapes of Fairfield, Neb., and Jeremy and Krista
Mapes of Brandon, S.D.; daughters, Tionna and Derek Botterweck of Newton and
Sierra Mapes and Vince Horn of Hesston; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by
his mother.
Service will be at 6 p.m.
Monday at American Legion of Newton with Pastor Gary Bell officiating.
Memorials may be made in lieu
of flowers to American Legion baseball fund or Memorial Bench in care of
Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
