Alice F. Harms
PARSONS - Alice F. Harms, 79,
in Parsons, died at 9:25 p.m., Wednesday (Sept. 12, 2007) at her home. She had
been in failing health for several months. She was born Nov. 20, 1927, in
Hillsboro, to Peter D. and Mary (Funk) Pankratz. She grew up and attended
schools in the Brudertal Church Community near Hillsboro, graduating from
Hillsboro High School. On Aug. 3, 1952, she married Sylvester Lee Harms near
Hillsboro. He preceded her in death Sept. 2, 2005. Following their marriage,
they moved to Newton, where they lived for several years before moving to
Wichita. Alice, Sylvester and their family worked 20 years for the First Church
of God, now Central Community Church of God, and for 24 years, part-time for
the oldest church in Wichita, the St. John's Episcopal Church. They made their
church work a ministry unto the Lord.
She and Sylvester were active
members of the Linwood Nazarene Church in Wichita for nearly 40 years.
In January 1994, they moved
to Hillsboro, where they lived and attended the First Mennonite Church. In May
2005, they moved to Parsons to be near their daughter. While living in Parsons,
they attended the Church of the Nazarene.
She enjoyed being a homemaker
and taking care of her family.
Surivors include two sons,
Stephen Harms and his wife, Kathy of Tucson, Ariz., and John Harms and his
wife, Paula of Leawood; a daughter, Sheila Lyle and her husband, Sam of
Parsons; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband,
she was preceded in death by a brother, Wesley Pankratz.
Friends may call at the
Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons after 9 a.m. Monday. The family will
receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family also
will receive friends at the First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro from noon until
service time on Tuesday.
Funeral services will be at 2
p.m. Tuesday at the First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro. Burial will be in
Grace Hill Cemetery, east of Newton.
