Laura V. Dickinson

HOYT - Laura V. Dickinson, 95, died Saturday (Sept. 22, 2007) at Presbyterian Manor in Newton. She was born Nov. 5, 1911, in Maitland, Mo., to Alexander J. and Minnie Kneale Barker. She was a farm wife and later ran the Mobil Station in Hoyt with her husband. She was a member of the Hoyt Baptist Church. She played the piano and organ for the Hoyt Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She also gave piano lessons. She married Edward M. Dickinson on March 12, 1936, in Hoyt. He preceded her in death on Aug. 25, 1997.

She is survived by a daughter, Joan Edson of Overland Park; sons, John Dickinson of Emporia, and Joe Dickinson of Newton; a sister, Mary Joy of Hoyt; nine grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded by brothers, Edward Barker and Bethel Barker.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hoyt Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Hoyt Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Hoyt Baptist Church or the Hoyt Volunteer Fire Department in care of Mercer Funeral Home, Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
