Evelyn Irene Hackney
Evelyn Irene Hackney, 86,
died Monday (Aug. 13, 2007) at Newton Medical Center.
She was born on Aug. 4, 1921,
the daughter of Carl H. and Agnes M. (Davidson) Porter in Burns. She married
Ray Hackney on May 15, 1940, in Newton. He died April 6, 1997. She was employed
at Friendly Acres Retirement Community (Asbury Park). She lived in the Newton
area most of her life and was active in the Newton First Baptist Church, where
she was a member.
Survivors include son and
daughter-in-law, Merle and Barbara Hackney of Newton; son and daughter-in-law
Galeard and Ilene Hackney of North Newton; son and daughter-in-law Donald and
Rosaetta Hackney of Goessel; son and daughter-in-law Terry and Laurie Hackney
of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; daughter and son-in-law Carol I. (Hackney) and Roger
Blair of Newton; brothers, Eldon Porter of Newton, Marvin Porter of Wichita and
Wayne Porter of Newton; sisters, Dorothy Williams, Hazel Abrahams and Joyce
Payne, all of Newton, Esther Israel of Springfield, Mo. and Bernice Winsky of
Moundridge; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in
death by her parents, sisters, Beatrice Porter, Lorene Kater and Jean Pierson,
two granddaughters and two grandsons.
Visitation will be from 9
a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at
Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.
A public memorial will be at
11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with Pastor Terry Tereila officiating.
A public burial will be at 10
a.m. Friday at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton.

home.
