Marcelo "Mushy"
"Marshall" Garcia, 78, died Monday (Aug. 20, 2007) at Via Christi
Medical Center - St. Francis campus in Wichita. He was born on Jan. 16, 1929,
in Newton to Nicolas and Guadalupe (Dominguez) Garcia. On Oct. 25, 1947, he
married Yolanda E. Castro at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Wichita. He was a
member of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Newton. He originated the first Hispanic
Mariachi of the Diocese. He was a member of the Francisco Madero Association in
Newton and was nd was a recipient of the Shirley Melton Dialysis Award.
During his lifetime, he kept
active with sports and followed his children and grandchildren through their
sport activities as well. He played the saxophone and the keyboard for many
people and would entertain many different groups of people with his music. Next
to his children and grandchildren, music was his greatest love. He was a
tremendous people person and was able to make many friends. He will be greatly
missed.
Survivors include his wife;
sons, Mario G. Garcia of Newton, Antonio N. Garcia of Ridgecrest, Calif., Frank
Garcia of Wichita, Victor M. Garcia of Newton and Gilbert Garcia of Hawaii;
daughters, Estela Garcia-Perry of Sahuarita, Ariz., and Maria Garcia of Newton;
a brother, Julian Garcia of Newton; sisters, Maria Garcia of Newton, Belia
Atkinson of Newton and Adelina Martinez of Newton; 21 grandchildren; and 17
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; a brother, James Garcia; and daughters, Amparo Garcia and
Evangelina Garcia.
Visitation will be from 9
a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m.
Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton.
Service will be at 10 a.m.
Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton with Father Floyd
McKinney officiating.
