Obituary
Goldena Louise Ray, 98, peacefully
passed away at her home in Newton surrounded by family.
She was born March 19, 1920, in
Manhattan, the daughter of Ward and Maude Mitchell. Goldena married
Luther Arzo Ray and they had been married for more than 70 years; he
precedes her in death.
Goldena loved flowers and cooking for
her family. She also took a lot of pride in helping to raise her
grandchildren. She was involved in the Prince Hall Grand Chapter
Order of The Eastern Star known as Almond #27 and had continuous
membership for more than 25 years. She was also a member of the
Women's Missionary Society of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Survivors include one son, George Ray
Sr. of Newton; two daughters, Mary McClanahan of East Stroudsburg,
Pennsylvania, and Paula Ray of Newton; six grandchildren: Tashia Ray,
George Ray, Chase Ray, Tyron Ray, Shawna Ray and Danelle McClanahan;
and 10 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by three
brothers; two sisters; and two grandchildren, Brian McClanahan and
Arica McClanahan.
The family would like to give a huge
thanks to Good Shepherd Hospice; they were wonderful, caring people
to Goldena.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 5
p.m. Sunday (Nov. 18, 2018). The funeral service will be held at 2
p.m. Monday (Nov. 19, 2018) at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, followed
by burial at Greenwood Cemetery.
