Elizabeth Marie Toews
Sawatzky, 94, died Thursday (June 28, 2007).
She was born on Nov. 2, 1912,
at home in rural North Enid, Okla., to Abraham A. and Agnes Benke Toews. After
her Marriage to Pete Sawatzky on March 21, 1937, they farmed, growing wheat and
raising beef, residing between Weatherford and Corn, Okla. She enjoyed life as
an Okie for 84 years, living her last 10 years of life in North Newton as a
resident of Kidron Bethel Healthcare. Her life was enriched by excellent care
and various daily activities. The family extends great appreciation and thanks
to each member of the staff, as well as the Harry Hynes Hospice. She enjoyed
all types of music and was accomplished at "playing by ear" on the
piano or organ. Other skills included growing beautiful flowers, sewing
garments and quilts, and cooking or baking-especially butterscotch cinnamon
rolls, a family favorite.
Remaining with fond memories
are daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Roland Miller of Newton; daughter-in-law,
Gail Sawatzky of Valleybrook, Okla.; grandchildren, Terri and Mark Arnold of
Sherman, Texas, Tina Ashley of Park Hill, Okla., Darin Miller of Wamego, and
fiance Heather Brown of Manhattan, Robyn and Rolly Walter of Malaga, Spain;
Ryan and Ricarda Miller of Overland Park, Kristy and Shannon Vaughn of Moore,
Okla., Jeff and Anne Bennett of Gravetta, Ark.; sister, Anne Summons of Sonoma,
Calif.; brother, Bill and Helena Toews of Enid, Okla.; sisters and
brothers-in-laws, Gladys and Bennie Regehr of Inman, Agnes Schmidt and Ed and
Bea Sawatzky of Corn, Okla.; 14 great-grandchildren; and many caregivers and
friends.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, Pete; son, Donald Lee; daughter, Clarice Mae; granddaughter,
Connie Lynn Grauel, brother, Abe, brothers-in-law, Jim Summons and Reuben
Schmidt; and her parents, Abe and Agnes Toews and Peter and Agnes Sawatzky.
A memorial service will be at
2 p.m. Saturday at Mennonite Brethren Church in Corn, Okla., followed by the
burial in the Corn Mennonite Brethren Cemetery.
A celebration of her life was
from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Kidren Bethel Healthcare in the Sunroom for
friends and relatives.
