Hillsboro – Betty Meier, 96, passed
away January 4, 2019 at Asbury Park in Newton. She was born March
22, 1922 in McPherson to Ed and Leah (Geis) Geis. She married Bill
Meier March 25, 1944 rural Durham. Survivors include: daughters,
Julianne Arguello of Costa Rica, Willabeth Gonzalez of Newton; 5
grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by: brother,
Quentin Geis; sisters, Eunice Klein and Lois Whitney; husband, Bill
Meier in 2009. Celebration of Life Service 11:00 a.m. Tuesday,
January 8, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Durham. Interment 10:00
a.m. Tuesday at Haven of Rest cemetery rural Hillsboro. Family will
receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Jost Funeral

Betty Rose (Geis) Meier was born March
22, 1922 at McPherson hospital. She was he daughter of Ed and Leah
Geis. She was raised on a farm by Durham Kansas with siblings Eunice,
Quinton, and Lois. She attended grade school at the square top
country school and attended Durham High School and graduated in 1940.
She then worked at Durham high school food service department. She
later became an Avon representative for 12 years. She married William
Meier on March 25th, 1944. They were married 65 years until his death
in 2009.
Betty was a busy homemaker and farm
wife helping Bill haul wheat, take meals to the farm, and fried lots
of chicken and cherry pies for the farm hands. She was a wonderful
cook and her favorite things to make her peppernuts and Beirrocks.
She was baptized at an early age. She
and Bill attended the Durham church of God and later became members
of the Durham Baptist church in which she was active in King’s
Daughters and belonged to the Guideon’s Auxilary in Hillsboro EHU.
She was proceeded in death by her
husband Carl William Meier. Brother Quinton Geis, sisters Eunice
Klein and Lois Whitney, and her parents Ed and Leah Geis.
She is survived by two daughters
Julianne and Husband Oscar A. of Costa Rica. Willabeth and Socorro G.
of Newton, Ks. Grand Children Wade and (Christine) B. of Texas,
Jeremy and (Mari) B. of Colorado, Reagan and (Kyle) S. of Newton, and
Laura and (David) D. of Newton, Sorrina and (Edward) M. of Park City,
and 8 great-great grandchildren.
