Gregory Sanchez
1955 - 2019
Obituary
Gregory Allen Sanchez was born Dec. 14,
1955, in Wichita to Isaac and Belen Sanchez.
Greg returned home on Saturday (Jan. 5,
2019) after a long and hard fight. He took his last breath at 4:34
a.m., surrounded by his wife, children and best friend at St. Francis
hospital in Wichita at the age of 63.
He graduated from Newton High School in
1974 and later graduated from WTI with an associate's degree in
electronics.
He married Rosie Corona on July 5,
1980. They lived a full life in Newton with their children and
family.
A self-taught musician, Greg loved
playing the guitar and bass throughout the years and also played in
several bands. He was known as "The Blues Man." He enjoyed
going to blues festivals and attending concerts. He was a member of
Cowboy Action Shooting, which he built targets for and was also a
proud supporter of the NRA. He loved to bow and rifle hunt and was a
welder for over 40 years.
He was most recently employed at Excel
Industries in Hesston. You could often find him outside smoking and
grilling food on his smoker/grill that he welded himself. He enjoyed
sitting outside in the nice weather, listening to music while
enjoying a beer. He gave advice, lectures and almanac predictions to
anyone who would listen. There wasn't a day that he didn't make
someone laugh. His favorite cat, Carl, enjoyed sleeping on his head
each night.
He leaves behind his wife, Rosie
Sanchez; son, Israel Sanchez; daughters, Olivia (Juan) Negrete and
Rose Sanchez; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers,
Michael (Tracy) Sanchez and Robert (Jeanette) Sanchez; sister, Carrie
(Linn) Lapp; very best friend/brother, Jimbo (Debbie) Honaker;
