Obituary
Vernon J. Wonders, 93, passed away
Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2019) at Asbury Park in Newton. He was born July
17, 1925, in Vivian, South Dakota, to John B. and Maude B (Jostmeyer)
Wonders. On Nov. 19, 1947, he married Audrey Hardiman in Newton and
she preceded him in death on Sept. 14, 2012.
Vernon served his country during World
War II in the United States Navy. He retired from the Cargill Flour
Mill in Newton as a foreman.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors
hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed fishing the Cottonwood
River. Vernon also enjoyed spending time gardening around his home.
He was a loving husband, father,
grandfather and friend and will be remembered as an amazing man,
wonderful dad and a kind and generous person.
Vernon is survived by his sons and
their wives, Ronald and Mary Wonders and Gary and Beth Wonders;
daughters, Karen Wonders, Marilyn Lucky and Velma Derringer; one
brother, Harold and his wife Ilene Wonders; eight grandchildren; and
13 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents;
wife; and one sister, Kay Founts.
Graveside committal service with Navy
Honors will be 11 a.m. Monday (Jan. 28, 2019) at Restlawn Gardens of
Memory in Newton, with Pastor Scott Kliewer presiding. Visitation
will be 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 27, 2019) at Petersen Funeral Home,
with the family greeting friends from 2 to 3 p.m.
