John R. Carothers
John R. Carothers, 81, died Wednesday
(Aug. 22, 2001) at Newton Medical Center.
He was born May 13, 1920, in Oklahoma.
He was adopted at a young age by John Carol and Ida Frances (Farmer)
Carothers. They preceded him in death. He married Leona G. Wilcoxson
Jan. 1, 1952, in Wichita. She survives.
He was a taxi driver in Webb City for
27 years and a minister for Full Gospel Church since 1987. He was a
former member of the Masonic Temple of Wichita.
Other survivors include: three sons,
Mike Carothers, Gregory Phillip Carothers and Francis Anthony
Carothers; a daughter, Mary K. Adams of Newton; four grandsons,
Maxwell Scheffler of Delphos, Frank "Tony" Smith and Danny
Carothers, both of Newton, and Allen Adams of Wichita; six
granddaughters, Glenda Lathrop of Salina, Judi Snow, Gale Spragg and
Debbie Richardson, all of Newton, Angie Hobbs of Lake Mills, Wis.,
and Windy Atkinson of Auburn, Neb.; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a son,
Robert Joseph Carothers.
Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today
at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m.
Friday at Wichita Park Cemetery with Chaplain Christine Edwards
officiating.
Memorials have been established with
the American Diabetes Association and Kansas Christian Home, both in
care of the funeral home.
