Richard McGlachlin
1935 - 2019
Obituary
Richard (Dick) McGlachlin passed away
on Tuesday (March 5, 2019), surrounded by his loving family.
Dick was raised on a farm south of
Newton. He married Margie, his high school sweetheart, in 1954, a
year after graduating from Newton High School. He and Margie lived on
the farm on which he was raised until 1973 and relocated to another
farm, where they lived until 1987. Dick and Margie obtained their
real estate sales licenses in 1979 and he remained in that business
for 36 years, working as a sales agent in two local real estate firms
and as owner/broker of McGlachlin Realty beginning in 2003.
His highest priority and greatest joy
was his family. He was proud to have raised all of his children on a
farm, where they learned the value of hard work and playing hard. He
loved simple games with his children, such as "fox and geese"
in the Kansas snow. He attended sports and other school activities
with his children and grandchildren, led family outings to local
lakes on warm Sunday afternoons and, later in life, traveled to
Mexico, the U.K. and Hawaii.
He was an active member of the Salem
United Methodist Church, where he served on many committees and sang
in the choir. He and Margie were youth fellowship leaders for several
years and had many fond memories of the youth activities including
taking the youth to Huntsville, Arkansas, in an old school bus.
Margie and he bowled in a couples' league for 40 years and were
long-term members of the Circle 8 Square Dance Club and Harvey County
Rural Life.
Dick is survived by Margie (Findley),
his wife of 64 years; and his four children: Steve (Penny) McGlachlin
of Turon, Sheryl (Bruce) McCandless of Billings, Montana, Lori
(Bruce) Jolliff of Newton and Brad (Janine) McGlachlin of Wichita. He
was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Valerie Brant, Angie McGlachlin,
Tim (Monica) McGlachlin, Seth McGlachlin, Ryan (Kelly) McCandless,
Darren (Amanda) McCandless, Joe (Lindsey) Jolliff, Britton
McGlachlin, Brooke McGlachlin, Kyler McGlachlin and Bria McGlachlin;
and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters,
Wyanetta (Jake) Evans and Janice (Al) Born.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, William and Margaret (Reilman) McGlachlin; brother, Donald;
and three brothers-in-law, Jake Evans and Cecil and Stanley Findley.
Dick was a gentle and kind person,
always willing to lend a hand to those in need and will be greatly
missed by family and friends.
