Eva 'Lea Ann' Shores
Eva "Lea Ann"
Shores, 94, died Monday (April 3, 2006) at Newton Presbyterian Manor. She was
born Sept. 2, 1911, to Phillip A. and Viana E. (Kimes) Steele in Monett, Mo.
They preceded her in death. She married Rayburn L. Shores Feb. 21, 1932, in
Newton. He preceded her in death. She graduated from Joplin High School in
Joplin, Mo. Lea Ann and Rayburn retired on the same day, Sept. 24, 1974. They
then traveled extensively to the Holy Land and other countries throughout
Europe.
Lea Ann retired from the
Kansas State Employment Office after working for 28 years. She was a member of
First Baptist Church in Newton where she and her husband served on various
church boards through the years. She also taught Sunday school.
Survivors include: nieces,
Bobbie Berlet of Osterville, Mass., and Jan Ruxton of Wichita; and nephews, Tim
Tolbert of Derby and Mike Tolbert of Vinita, Okla.
Funeral service will be 10
a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with Pastor John Bliss officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood
Cemetery.
Memorials have been
established with First Baptist Church and Hospice Care of Kansas, both in care
of Petersen Funeral Home.
