Lena L. Harp
Lena L. Harp, 86, died
Wednesday (April 19, 2006) at her residence in Newton. She was born July 9,
1919, to Charley B. and Bertha M. (Williams) Ross in Hodgman County. They
preceded her in death. She married Howard "Lowell" Snyder Feb. 9,
1941, in Scott City. He preceded her in death Dec. 11, 1951. She later married
Herbert Elvin Harp May 9, 1953, in Maize. He preceded her in death Oct. 15,
1999. Lena retired from several occupations. She worked as a waitress,
secretary and bookkeeper. She also was a homemaker and attended business
college.
She was a member of Young at
Heart in Maize, the Maize Book Club for more than 50 years, Spring lakes
Camping Club, T.L.C. of First Missionary Church, Red Hatters of Friendly Acres
and the Maize UMC from 1945 to 2006. She moved to Newton in 2000 and attended
First Missionary Church.
She will be remembered as a
loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed working on varied crafts. She had an
unforgettable smile and was a wonderful friend to everyone.
Survivors include: a
daughter, Millie (Harp) Warren and husband Bennie of Newton; a son, Ross Herbert
Harp and wife Pam of Owasso, Okla.; four grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in
death by a sister, Mabel James.
Visitation will be from 1 to
9 p.m. Sunday with family greeting friends from 2 to 4 p.m. at Petersen Funeral
Home.
Funeral service will be 10
a.m. Monday at First Missionary Church with Pastors Ray Adams and Dan Quinlan
officiating.
Burial will be in Resthaven
Cemetery.
Memorials have been
established with First Missionary Church Building Fund, United Methodist Church
and Hospice Care of Kansas, all in care of the funeral home.
