Martha L. Wenger
MOUNT RAINIER, Md. - Martha
L. Wenger, 51, librarian, died April 9, 2006, at Washington Hospital Center in
Washington, D.C. She was born Feb. 9, 1955, to Esther (Boehr) Wenger and
Malcolm Wenger in Hardin, Mont. Her mother survives of North Newton; her father
preceded her in death Feb. 23, 2003. She married Konrad Ege on May 27, 1979. He
survives. She graduated from Newton High School in 1973 and Bethel College with
a degree in peace studies and history in 1977. She lived in Israel and Palestine
for one year as a Peace Studies Intern through Bethel College, attending Hebrew
and Birzeit Universities. She worked for the General Conference Mennonite
Church as a voluntary service worker with Clergy & Laity Concerned in
Washington, D.C. She later was assistant editor of The Middle East Report and
most recently was a librarian at Washington International School. She attended
Adelphi Friends Meeting in Adelphi, Md. and served as clerk of their Peace and
Social Concerns Committee.
Other survivors include: a
son, Hans Ege Wenger of Mount Rainier; and sisters, Betsy Kaufman and husband
Randall of Windom, Ann Wenger of Goshen, Ind., and Becky Voth and husband Ken
and Grace Wenger, all of Newton; a niece, Cristina Woodall and husband Scott of
Pagosa Springs, Colo.; and a nephew, David Kaufman, wife Sarah and their son
Erik of Windom.
Memorial services were April
15, 2006, in Washington, D.C. A local memorial service will be at a later date.
