Mattie 'Iola' Goetschius
Mattie "Iola"
Goetschius, 94, died May 13, 2006, at Kidron Bethel Health Care.
She was born Dec. 9, 1911, to
Charles Lewis and Sarah Ellen (Harris) Lambert in Moreland, Okla. She married
Russell Wood Goetschius Dec. 9, 1933. They preceded her in death.
She worked for Western Union
as an operator and manager in the 1930s. She served as a county employee in the
Register of Deeds department in Harvey County and secretary for the Harvey
County superintendent of schools. She retired in 1968.
She was a graduated of
Emporia High School, lived in Newton since 1937, and was a good neighbor and
friend to many.
Survivors include: a
daughter, Judy Hawkey and husband Dale of Newton; a granddaughter, Kathy
Garriott and husband Steve of Wichita; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by:
brothers, V.C. Blaine and Harold Blaine; and sisters, Alma Lambert and Evelyne
Harris.
Funeral service will be 11
a.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home with Kidron Bethel chaplain Amanda Rempel
officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood
Cemetery with a private family committal service.
Memorials have been
established with Newton Public Library in care of the funeral home.
