Wanda Lois Wedel
Wanda Lois Wedel, 100, died Friday
(Oct. 4, 2019) at Asbury Park in Newton. She was born on July 17,
1919, in McCracken, the daughter of the Rev. Milton Henry and Nettie
Pauline Volkland Matthaei. After graduating from high school, Lois
attended both the University of Kansas and Kansas State University.
While working as a bookkeeper at Duke
Lumber Yard in Newton, Lois met Marvin R. Wedel. They were married on
Jan. 22, 1947, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton.
Lois was a charter member of Trinity
Heights United Methodist Church, where she was active with United
Methodist Women and many other church activities.
Survivors include her son, Allen Wedel
of Newton; daughters, Sharon Kaiser of Newton and Susan Bartel and
husband Fred of North Newton; seven grandchildren: Todd Wedel and
wife Adrianne, Scott Wedel and wife Crystal, Kim Algrim and husband
Tyler, Rebecca Thomson and husband Gary, James Kaiser and wife
Tomoko, Amanda Perez and husband Dierik, and Justin Bartel; and 19
great-grandchildren.
Lois is preceded in death by her
parents; husband, Marvin on Sept. 3, 2010; brother, Paul Matthaei;
sisters, Maurine Harbaugh and Muriel Michael; daughter-in-law, Pamela
Wedel; and son-in-law, Roger Kaiser.
Funeral services will be held at 11
a.m. Monday (Oct. 14, 2019) at the Trinity Heights United Methodist
Church in Newton. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
The family will receive friends between 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 13,
2019) at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
