Donald R. Rittgers
Donald R. Rittgers died
Tuesday (June 27, 2006) a the Holiday Resort in Emporia. Rittgers of Emporia
was formerly a resident of Newton. He was born June 14, 1921, in Roxbury, Kan.
to Sanford Rittgers and Etta Gay. He was a self-employed upholsterer. Rittgers
was married to Della Nickel on Sept. 9, 1951. He was a member of the National
Campers and Hikers Association Marionettes. He grew up in Hillsboro and lived
in Newton and Wichita after his marriage. He moved to Marion in 1961 and opened
an upholstery shop in Marion. He moved to Lebo in 1998 and then moved back to
Marion in 2003 and Emporia in 2004.
He was preceded in death by
his wife, Della Rittgers; brother, Lloyd Rittgers; and five sisters, Freda
Smith, Marie Crowthers, Lena Dawe, Dorothy Rittgers, and Bonnie Gay.
Survivors include son, David
Ray Rittgers, Holcomb; Debra Rene Thomas, Lebo; sister, Letha Garrett, Wichita;
two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The service will be 1 p.m.
Thursday at Eastmoor United Methodist Church with the Rev. Margaret Gunzelman
and Pastor Rick Branson officiating.
Burial will be at Marion
Cemetery. Memorial funds can be sent to the Lebo United Methodist Church and
Holiday Resort.
Visitation will be 1 to 5:30
p.m. today.
