Vickie Jo Opland

Vickie Jo Opland, 46, died Thursday (June 29, 2006) at her Newton residence. She was born Nov. 6, 1960, in Torrance, Calif., to AnnaLaura Fern and George Edward Larkins. She married Steve Opland on June 29, 1991, in Newton. He survives. She worked for USD 373 in Newton as a paraeducator. She enjoyed attending her children's activities, Cody's sports and DeAnna's dance. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, as well. Her other interests included camping and participating in the Relay for Life program.

Other survivors include son, Cody Opland, of Newton; two daughters, Mandy (Baughman) and Shane Ammerman of Valley Center and DeAnna Opland of Newton; two brothers, Mike and Robin Larkins of Wichita and Charlie Larkins of Florida; four sisters, LaWynna and John Clementz of Bonney Lake, Wash., Crystal and John Belt of Wichita; Nonnie and Claude Callaway of Rose Hill; and Terrie Giordano of Jacksonville, Fla.; and grandchildren, Christian and Madison Ammerman of Valley Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law Dee Opland; and granddaughter Amanda Baughman.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton. Family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The service will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Salvation Army, 1739 S. Elpyco in Wichita, with Capt. Harold Frost Jr., Major Nancy Wandling and the Rev. Greg Schmidt officiating.

Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the Cody and DeAnna Opland College Fund at Bank of the West in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
