Leonard J. Junke

Leonard J. Junke, 85, died Thursday (July 13, 2006) at Newton Medical Center. He was born June 29, 1921, at Moundridge to Karl and Katharine (Goering) Junke. He married Erma Decker at Galva Sept. 8, 1942. She survives of the home. He was a member of First Mennonite Church of Newton. He served for four years in the Civilian Public Service as a mechanic, followed by nearly 60 years farming and crop development in rural Sedgwick. He also is survived by a son, Morris Juhnke of Sedgwick; three daughters, Verona Entz of Whitewater, Shardelle Dirks of Sedgwick and Berdene Barta of Michell, S.D.; a brother, Quinton Junke of Inman; two sisters, Twila Wedel of McPherson and Joyce Kaufman of Palo Alto, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Mennonite Church with pastor Clarence Rempel officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery of Sedgwick. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at Hillside Cemetery. A memorial has been established with The Calvary Hour radio broadcast in care of the funeral home.
