Ella L. Stukey
Ella L. Stukey, 98, died
Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at Kidron Bethel Health Care in North Newton. She was
born on Sept. 8, 1907, in Crawford County, Ill., to William and Rosa (White)
Hillman. On Nov. 17, 1934, she married G.O. Stukey Sr. in Kansas City, Kan. He
preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 1991. She was a member of First Baptist
Church in Newton. She owned and operated beauty shops in Newton, Whitewater and
Halstead. She enjoyed traveling and especially looked forward to riding the
train on her travels. She also enjoyed crocheting, crafts and ceramics. One of
her greatest joys was baby-sitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
and spending time with her loving family and friends.
Survivors include a son,
Garry and Donna Stukey of Newton; sister-in-law, Martha McQuaid of Robinson,
Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Pat Meacham of Newton; seven grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in
death by her parents; four brothers; three sisters; twin children Peggy and
Billy; son Bobby E. Meacham; son Eddy G. Meacham; grandson Chuck Quattlebaum;
and daughter-in-law Marilyn Meacham.
Visitation will be from 1 to
9 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. The family will receive
friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The service will be at 10
a.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Hiebert
officiating.
Burial will be at Restlawn
Gardens of Memory in Newton.
Memorials have been
established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Newton Health Ministries and
Kidron Bethel Village, all in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
